Sëg-yêmë Ratê (/ˈʤɪʤɘ/ /ˈjɘmë/ [live] [drink]) is a temperate Small City located in the Têqayëg̈ê Zone of the Engineer's Guild.

The name Sëg-yêmë Ratê is derived from the Sylvin language, as Sëg-yêmë Ratê was founded by Zêb, who was culturaly Iron Elf.

Climate

Sëg-yêmë Ratê has a yearly average temperature of 23°C (73°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 26°C (78°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 21°C (69°F). Sëg-yêmë Ratê receives an average of 243 cm/y (95 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Sëg-yêmë Ratê covers an area of nearly 8 km2 (3 mi2), and an average elevation of 6618 m (-21237 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Sëg-yêmë Ratê was founded durring the early 15th century in spring of the year 1410, by Zêb. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Sëg-yêmë Ratê was built using the conventions of Iron Elf durring the early 15th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Sëg-yêmë Ratê is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature timber and earth construction, with most buildigns first floors resembling mounds of earth, with subsequent floors appearing as elaborate log cabins, with each building forming a tiered pyramid of sorts fromed from the stack of rectangular, peek roofed cabins. Most wooden bracing, support, and trim is carved with decorative knotwork, and the larger structures even feature painted trim which emphasises the knotwork.

Sëg-yêmë Ratê is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of crampt paverstone streets which form octogonal paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The city sits behind a stone-renforced palisade wall, with stone gatehouses and timber drawbridges for their trench. The would-be-castle fortifications have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

Sëg-yêmë Ratê has a very calm atmosphere. People can be seen relaxing, scocilizing, and going about all manner of business other than the daily grind. Men, women, children, all can be seen enjoying life in a laid-back way in the many parks which line Sëg-yêmë Ratê’s streets.

Cultural Notes

The locals are convinced that there is some terrible threat against them working from within their society. It may be a matter of dark sorcerers, foreign spies, traitorous neighbors, shape shifting monsters, or some other hidden evil. This evil may be a recent fear, or it may be an inherited peril they’ve always had to guard against. The danger itself may or may not exist, or if it exists it may not justify the steps being taken.

Sëg-yêmë Ratê's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used has a sleek, linear appearance with stylized, often geometric ornamentation. The primary facade of its buildings often featured a series of set backs that create a stepped outline. Low-relief decorative panels can be found at entrances, around windows, along roof edges or as string courses. It was best known for its use of smooth finish building materials such as stucco, concrete block, glazed brick or mosaic tile. Decorative details can incorporate various artistic or exotic motifs to suit the building's function or the architect's whim. Chevrons, zigzags, and other geometrical motifs are common forms of ornament.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century a great windstorm struck Sëg-yêmë Ratê. Its winds were so great they picked up unsecured objects and flung them with enough force to smash brick and skull alike. Buildings collapsed under the gale, burying countless people alive. The storm's devistation was focused on the area arround Sëg-yêmë Ratê, which lost 153 people, 178, and 60 livestock in the disaster.. History remembers the strom as The Storm of Mourning.
